Jack Black is confident in Tenacious D’s comeback.
The actor, 54, addressed his band’s future after canceling their tour because of the backlash over band member Kyle Gass’ controversial comment about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety at the premiere of his new movie “Borderlands” on Tuesday night.
“And we’ll be back,” he added.
Black confirmed that he’s been in touch with Gass, 64, after condemning his bandmate’s remark about the former president.
“Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed,” said Black.
“These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right,” the “Tropic Thunder” star added.
During Tenacious D’s show in Australia on July 14, the day after Trump, 78, was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Black presented Gass with a birthday cake onstage and told him to make a wish.
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass said.
After the comment sparked widespread backlash, Gass was dropped by his talent agency, Greene Talent, while Black announced that Tenacious D was canceling the rest of their Spicy Meatball Tour.
Both members of the band spoke out about the controversy in separate statements.
Black told The Post that he was “blindsided” by Gass’ comment at their concert and “would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.”
Gass released an apology and said his remark was “highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.”
“I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone,” he wrote on Instagram. “What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
Gass has since deleted his apology post.
On July 13, Trump was shot by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was perched on a roof about 130 yards from the stage where the former president was speaking.
Crooks was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
Trump addressed the shooting in an exclusive interview with The Post on July 14, calling it a “very surreal experience.”
Black is an outspoken critic of Trump. In June, the “Jumanji” star delivered a speech at a star-studded fund-raiser for Joe Biden’s reelection campaign in Los Angeles, before the 81-year-old president dropped out of the race.
Former President Barack Obama, Jimmy Kimmel, George Clooney and Julia Roberts also took part in the event, which raised over $30 million.
Black, who had on what he called “kick-ass American flag overalls,” cracked a number of jokes in his speech.
